Winter Exhibition 2019/2020
Making history – manuscripts that bring the past alive
Winter Exhibition in the baroque hall of the Abbey Library
10 December 2019 to 8 March 2020
Stories of the past shape the way we view the world and play a part in moulding our future. Well-written chronicles with gripping narratives make fascinating reading. At the same time, they provide insight into everyday routines and the moral
principles that ruled people’s lives.
In the exhibition, the famous manuscripts of St. Gall show the development of European historiography from Antiquity to the fall of the Ancien Régime. In addition to the great historical narratives of Antiquity and the Middle Ages, the exhibition focuses on the chronicles of the Abbey of St. Gall written by Ratpert and Ekkehart IV.
